Residing in Keystone City of North Dakota, Daniel Hart is a local artist who mostly paints portraits and landscapes. Having lost his brilliant astronomer mother, Amy, to cancer before entering art school, he worked his craft to do his mother proud.
Only, he would've never guessed that his mother would come back to him...well, sort of.
Anne Hart is the first slime girl that intrudes Daniel's life. After coming out of Lecia's ritual as a basic slime, she evolved after consuming Amy's corpse from the grave, thus inheriting the astronomer's memories, knowledge, and affection for Daniel.
Spoiling, cheeky at times, and quick to experiment, she desires to be Daniel's new "Mama"; although, she goes far beyond what a mother should do.
For a while, her origin remained a mystery until the discovery of a realm one enters when falling asleep surrounded by her cool, gooey body. There, she is inexplicably linked to Viviane, with the likelihood she is an accidental split after Viviane dropped part of herself into the green fire that appeared before her.
Abilities
Mary Lin is another artist that strays into all sorts of crafts. Born in London, then immigrated to the U.S., she met Daniel at the art school together. Although they were compatible, their creative differences in their early careers proved to be too much, so they split; however, they kept in touch as friends to refer clients to each other.
Later on, thanks to Anne, Mary revealed her regret for not working through their creative differences. In the end, they get back together in a stranger relationship than before. One might even say that Anne glues them together. In fact, fusing with Anne, Mary has also inherited Amy's memories, thus adding a maternal touch to her love for Daniel. She can be considered a second mother-of-sorts to the artist, or shall we say..."Mummy".
Viviane is an elder slime that has been trapped in a repeating magical space likely since medieval times. With memories lost to time and under maternal strain, the silver slime girl lived in solitude until a green fire appeared in her lake prison.
Stepping into such fire, new memories and love filled her from Amy; however, she found herself again trapped into a realm linked to an accidental split of herself that would become Anne.
Abilities
As Viviane has existed longer, she has better control of her slime mass. These are some of the abilities revealed.
Marlin Lin is Mary's uncle from her father's side. From early memories of Mary when she was little, it is revealed he holds a different book given to him by a mysterious shop owner that disappeared.
From then on, he worked to study it, providing unintentional influence to his niece in her growth to becoming an artist.
Although he claims to be alone, it's unclear if he's aware of other groups such as Lecia's organization.
Rachel Swan is an astronomer who was Amy's best friend and trusted colleague. In a way, she's practically family for Amy, who could be there for Daniel when he needed it.
It's revealed that Rachel is also associated with Lecia's Stonehenge group, making her a variable between her relationship with Daniel and Lecia's search for the slime creature.
Having met Anne, she's the only one with the connections and knowledge to notice there's something more to Daniel's "girlfriend".
Mike Sanders is Lecia's trusted college friend and fellow archeologist. Joining the Sights Open president to help uncover the mysteries of the Stonehenge book, he is unable to completely avoid his feelings for his college crush despite being married to his historian wife, Jessica.
Marianne is the fusion between Mary and Anne. In addition to considering herself to be Daniel's "Mama", she sees her relationship with Daniel not only in a maternal sense, but kinky too. In a way, this fusion can be seen as a corruption of Anne by Mary.
Vida is the fusion between Viviane and Daniel. With it, the gender can be considered more fluid as Viviane's envelopment of Daniel can be shaped to either hide Daniel's male parts (False female), expose it (Herm), or...well, just not carry breasts (Male?).
Personality-wise, Vida still comes with Daniel's reservations; however, he can be more maternal (or paternal) depending on the situation. Their existence is awkward, though, as Viviane loves Daniel, but loving one's self isn't exactly working.
"Oh my, Viviane. Was your lesson with Merlin harsh today? Come here, your mother will make you feel better~"
It's clear she's related to Viviane with connections to Merlin, but how or why is not really described in any medieval tales. Even though laying claim as a "mother", Viviane doesn't feel anything to such a person.
Merlin is best known as the wizard who assists and guides King Arthur; however, it's unknown his actual involvement in real life (Real life in terms of this novel, of course).
It is known in tales that he can peer into the future, even witnessing his own demise by Viviane, although, he does not try to stop it. This is confirmed by his way of sending the Isis book to Marlin and predicting Mary would see it (Giving Viviane an outlet to see his message).
He knows Viviane, although it's not clear what his relationship is or if the tales of his demise are true. What is clear is that he's cares for her and is concerned for her.
Message for Viviane (Through Mary's memory):
My dear friend, Viviane...or might there be another who can read these words? Even now, I doubt my magic.
I hope you can forgive me for what I've done.
It must've been hard.
It was hard on me.
As I predict from these damned visions that never let me sleep, your seal will come undone one day by the ignorance of others.
When that time comes, you will love others as you have loved me.
You will consume others as you have consumed me.
I can't stop it.
Despite knowing the future, I still can't stop you.
Because, as always, I want to believe in you.
What I then shall raise is: Who shall you be?
Who shall you protect and love this time?
How far will you go?
I can only hope it becomes a good future for you and all, my lady, who lost so much.
Your friend, Merlin.
To Mary
To the bright artist, in the chance you also find a way to read these words outside of yourself, I give my apologies to you and your family. Although I don't know you, I have plunged you into a conflict that I'm unable to predict.
Please.
Do not let the goddess sway my lady.
They are not the same.
They are not one.
The love for life must not be infinite.
A mother's love cannot be infinite.
Her self-imposed exile was the wrong solution knowing the future.
But the risk to consuming others is too great.
This is my failure.
These are side characters that may be expanded in the future, but for now, are not big enough to need to be thought of.
Mike's Wife, Jessica
Jessica is Mike's wife, who he met in as a colleague in the University they work at. She is unknowingly a source of jealousy by Lecia, who wanted to be by Mike's side as college friends.
The main thing she has helped contribute is telling Mike of a record where Cleopatra seemingly "revived" after her suicide. This is in relation to Mike pondering other instances where a body goes missing as Lecia had disclosed regarding Amy's corpse disappearing.
Disappearing shop owner who sold the Isis book
The shop owner of an "antique store" that Marlin visited is seemingly not normal, given the expectation that his niece would open the book and pass a message down in the future. Who is he? Merlin? Or perhaps a true descendant of Merlin to ensure the future came true?
The Stonehenge book was found buried during excavations near Stonehenge in the U.K.
Once Lecia discovered it, she knew its importance couldn't be hidden behind public or government institutions. Thus, retiring as an archeologist and founding a secret organization, the book remains studied by its members.
While little is known about its purpose, a trial attempt of one of its rituals shows that its magic is real. This results in a green fire that summons the slime that would become Anne.
Referencing the goddess Isis in Roman and Egyptian mythologies, the book is a magical text seemingly prepared by the wizard, Merlin, to be in Marlin's hand way into the future.
With its unknown letters matching those in the Stonehenge book, it's not clear what its relationship is to the Stonehenge book or Isis.
Later, it is revealed that the book was intended to be given to Marlin in anticipation that a young Mary would open it. From a blank page opened, Viviane and Mary would see different messages, full of hope and concern for The Lady of the Lake (Viviane).
If there's anything more telling than a magical summon, it's waking into a world after falling asleep in such summon.
In this case, the realm belonging to Anne is a lush plain with small mountains in the distance. Pretty empty otherwise, the important features are lakes, or better termed, "knowledge pools".
Each lake represents a person gained through absorption/fusion/syncing. So far, one belongs to Amy (After absorbing the astronomer's corpse from the grave) and the other Mary (After fusion).
By staring into a lake, one can revisit the memories from that person's perspective or a live view if inherited (i.e. Amy's lake is extended by Anne, so a live view is possible from there).
Viviane has resided in Anne's realm since taken by the green flame in her previous realm. It's unknown why she ended up in it, but she's been watching through Anne until Chapter 51.
Observations
Stars have important meaning, not only symbolically in terms of Amy's love for them, but are seemingly connected to magical phenoma.
Rachel observed that during the ritual that would summon Anne, the stars of Aquarius dimmed simultaneously for a few seconds. Such probability is more likely due to instrumental error or clouds, if anything; however, that's not what happened here.
Later, Albali disappears in line when Viviane escapes from Anne's realm. Considering Albali means literally "The Swallower" in Arabic, there's an irony of it being the only one to disappear.
Very entertaining smut with a little bit of dark foreshadowing. For those that like slimegirls the premise is similar to Doukyo Suru Neneki, if your familiar with that work then you will like this as well.
Only thing that I found stange was the MC meeting the instigator of the monster summoning so early, this may be too much of a coincidence or maybe destiny is involved. There is not enough chapters right now to tell.
