One of the many worlds that comes from the tree known as the "Sephiroth". Eforde was once a green lush land until the Great Calamity brought the Malice. Now most of the world is ab uninhabitable desert, save for the country of Haven.
A country founded around an oasis that grew overtime. It is structed into nine territories referred to as "Circles", with the inner circles being those closes to the oasis, and the outer circles being close to the deserts called "Wastes". Haven is ruled by the Church of Order, each ring governed by an Arch Bishop who reports to the leader of the church, the High Priestess (elect). Within the four most inner circles there is the most lush and bountiful land in all of Eforde, with the forests of the sixth circle supplying most of the timber used in construction. The Seventh circle is known for it's fields of crops which are sold in abundance in the inner circles. The Eight circle has beautiful pristine springs, whose water is more valuable than gold. The Ninth circle is home of the Church's headquarters, the Inner Sanctum, a Massive tower that is said to reach the heavens.
The five Outer circles are made up of cities and settlements separated by the wastes. The first circle being home to the most destitute of all the nine circles.
The Malefic are monsters created by the malice. They murder indiscriminately, not to feed, but because they simply enjoy carnage. No mortal weapons can kill a Malefic, only a witches magic can. It is for that reason the church teaches that the Malefic, and the Malice that creates them, comes from the Witch Queen.
An enigmatic figure from the history of Eforde. She first appeared thousands of years ago during the Great Calamity. The church teaches that she brought the Malice with her, and spread it across the world out of a wicked spite for the Goddess' creation.
There are those who say otherwise, they say she came to save the world from Malice, sent by the Goddess herself.
All that is truly known about her, is that she commanded seven mighty Familiars, and performed magic that went against the natural order of the Goddess.
Some years ago another woman appeared who many claimed was the Witch Queen returning to Eforde, though it is undecided whether or not this was true.
Elite soldiers of the church who are tasked with the eradication of witches. Also known as "Witch Hunters", the Inquisitors wear armor made from Malecite which protects them from magic, their signature helmets which cover their face being a symbol which strikes fear in many witches.
Since the former High Priestess decriminalized witches, the Inquisitors now act as a police force seeking out witch criminals instead.
An ore that has "anti magic properties". It is used in the manufacturing of all anti-witch materials. The biproduct from refining Malecite is then used as fuel known as "diesel fuel", which has led to a great industrial boom in Haven.
A magical "card" that contains the seal of a familiar. It is the link between the witch and her familiar when the familiar is not materialized in the natural world. The church has sought a way to destroy the carta's so that no new witches can use them, but they are indestructible by any mortal means.
A dark energy that manifests in swarming clouds all across the world of Eforde. It appeared first in the great calamity withering crops, petrifying forests and poisoning rivers and springs. The Malice is constantly visible in the sky, though it can touch down onto the earth, bringing natural disaster with it, during what is referred to as a "Malice Storm".
Also known simply as "Suitor", it is a title given to a fledgling witch, one who has not yet "consummated" her contract with her familiar. Her powers are lesser than those who have a stronger union, those called "Witch Brides".
A witch who has "Consummated" her contract with her familiar. Through a stronger bond she is able to wield more powerful magic.
Witch Suitors who have repented and dedicated themselves to service of the church. They use the magic offered by their familiars to fight the Malefic in the name of the Goddess. They adhere to strict rules concerning their relationship with their familiars, treating it more so as business than romantic bond. They are called warbrides because they are considered "married to the battle against the enemies of the Goddess".
A spirit from another world who posses magical power. They can not materialize in Eforde without the energy known as "Eros" supplied to them from a witch. After forming a contract with a witch, they grant the witch powers in exchange for their eros. Only witches, or those who have the aptitude to become witches can hear a familiar when it is not materialized.
Many witches say they heard a song being sung to them before meeting their familiar.
