Location
Sa'anite dessert

A desert to the far west of the Lamarian empire. They have many exotic products and are ruled by cat-type beastkin.

Lamarian empire

The empire where our story begins. The Lamarian empire is situated in the middle-south of the "main continent" near the sea.

The Lamarian people are composed of humans as the main ethnicity and orcs as the largest minority. However, the Lamarian empire is a human supremacist empire, and as such, those who are born non-human suffer discrimination there.

Their technology is ancient Roman-style, and they detest the low-tech barbarians to the north.

Characters
Mog

Our protagonist.

Born on 27th month of wind 4983 of the holy calendar.

Born to two demigod parents, he was left in the custody of an old thief.

Miscellaneous
Calendar

In the world of Aessonia, there are 360 days, divided into 12 months with 3 10-day weeks. Every six years, they have a 13th month called the month of chaos. Every twelve years, they add 3 days to the month of Chaos as an equalizer.

It begins with Ice -> Lightning -> water -> poison -> nature -> wind -> fire -> earth -> war -> arcane -> darkness -> light -> ice...

The month of Ice is usually the coldest time of the year, while the month of fire is the peak of summer. Our story begins in the year 4993 in the month of War of the holy calender, by the way.

List of revealed gods

Hekatinu: Goddess of fertility, lust, sex, and female beauty

Veona: Goddess of luck. Like luck, she is blind and is one of the three blind goddesses in the world of Aessonia. She is also the goddess that Mog is worshiping and one of the main gods of the Lamarian empire. Some nickname her lady luck. If you are lucky, then they say that the lucky lady is smiling upon you.

Emphine: Goddess of the webs of fate. Like Veona, Emphine is a blind goddess and is said to see with the webs she weaves. It is said she has three forms, a woman, a spider, and an Arachne. The Underdark worships her spider and Arachne forms, while the surface worships her human form. Those born blind in the world of Aessonia are said to be blessed by Emphine and have a gift for augury. If they are strong enough, a soothsayer may not need his eyes anymore, for he developed a sixth sense. Menvi Kiadunrac, a half-drow from the Underdark city of Vlaapolis, is her high-priestess and assuming a 'demigod'.

Damaq: God of judgment and fairness. When someone swears an oath to another, Damaq judges the Oaths eligibility. If the Oath is valid, a pact is formed between two, notifying both parties. An Oath may only be formed under the free will of both sides, but, when formed, cannot be broken unless both parties agree, or they would earn wrath even above Damaq's own power. When someone swears under Damaq's name that what he says is true, if what he says is false, his fate would be damaged by the laws of the universe, making him less fortunate in life by a great margin. This is why people seldom swear falsely, and people who do are trusted.

Ivius: God of cleanliness and purity. He is basically a god with major cleaning OCD, preferring that people would be clean and healthy. He has a great dislike for any filthy race, especially races such as the undead. Although his priests can cast healing spells, they mostly specialize in purifying undeath, poison, curses, and anything else unpure and unclean. New acolytes of Ivius usually do cleaning tasks for the city. More powerful priests usually cleanse poisons, curses, and the undead.

Ximjun: God of medicine and alchemy. As his name suggests, he is a god of the craft of alchemy and medicine making and is the patron god of most alchemists out there. When an alchemist succeeds in making something miraculous, they would praise him.

Nyengorath: God of Wealth, Trade, and Safekeeping. He is the god of both merchants and bankers alike. His temples are hallowed grounds that serve as banks throughout Aessonia. Those who attempt stealing from such temples are cursed, depending on how much they stole.

Qraenta: Goddess of the Underworld. She is depicted as an evil goddess of the afterlife, but not much is known about her for now.

Khemdarr: God of the light and sun. He dislikes the eldritch races with a passion and has many zealots that work tirelessly to cleanse anyone they find. He sent the current emperor of the Lamarian empire, Taidus Hecatus Caesar, on a mission to kill a demon god. The emperor is also the possessor of an intermediate blessing.

Breeding rules
When two races mate together, certain rules apply to determine the resulting race of the child.

Every race has two halves in its race. For example, a human has a human/human, an orc has an orc/orc, and a half-orc has an orc/human in their races.

When two races breed with each other, if they are genetically compatible, a child can be born. When the two parents mate, there is a 50% chance of a certain half of their race being selected, determining half of the resulting child's race.

For example, two humans will have a human, and two orcs will have an orc. A human and an orc will always result in a half-orc. A human and a half-orc will result in a 50% chance human and a 50% chance orc/human.

In general, if one parent has the race a/b and the other parent race c/d, then 25% chance that the child would be born a/c, 25% a/d, 25% chance b/c, and 25% chance b/d.

There is also incompatible genetics to take into account:

Humans cannot breed with halflings and dwarves.

Orcs cannot breed with beastkin.

Beastkin cannot interbreed with incompatible beastkin, orcs, and elves.

Elves of any race cannot breed with beastkin and dwarves.

Dwarves cannot breed with halflings, elves, and ogres.

halflings cannot breed with humans and dwarves.

Barbarians, same as humans.

Giants, same as humans.

Ogre's cant mate with dwarves and halflings.

Male goblins can mate with almost any race, and the resulting children will always be goblins as if cloning themselves. Female goblins, on the other hand, can only mate with humanoids and will give birth to more highly evolved variants of goblins if they mate with someone strong. Highly evolved female goblins can even give birth to some very highly evolved goblins that are comparable to people and rarely give birth to the father sides race.

Dragons can breed with anything through magical means, but the dragon blood will dwindle with each generation.

Monster girls: depends on which monster girl race, but generally the resulting child will be a full-blooded monster girl with a rare male from the father's race side, having a few additional traits from the mother.

Although there are other races out there, not enough data has been gathered to determine interracial breeding compatibilities.

Creature: Common goblins

Plane goblins, common goblins, green goblins, or goblins for short. Their other nickname is green pests and with good reason.

Just like orcs, they were green-skinned creatures with a bit of protruding teeth, and they have long and slightly floppy pointy ears, but that is where the similarity ends.

Their height is around 3-3.5ft tall. They have large, wrinkly, and wart-filled heads and large pointy noses, with mouths filled with the sharp teeth of a predator, able to tear flesh and bones to shreds, although they also eat grass and bark. Their arms are long and their feet are short, with fingernails that can gauge flesh and muscle.

Although they have small statures and lean bodies, they have a bit of muscle on them, especially their limbs, with some even more muscular than me, a half-orc.

They have an (F-) danger rating in adulthood, have the intelligence of a 10-year-old, and they can use tools and traps, so their true danger rating is even higher. When in groups, their danger rating can spike, and they can also evolve into stronger goblinoids.

They have a rather evil disposition, liking to loot and pillage defenseless villages and towns. Their goal in doing so is not for only riches and food, but also women.

Yes, women. The less evolved a goblin is, the more the male to female ratio is skewed towards being born male. It is as high as 999:1.

That is why male goblins need to kidnap females of other races, and their preferred target is other humanoids. When they breed a female of another race, all babies born are 100% goblin, as if they are cloning themselves. Each litter consists of 4-6 goblins and has a fixed gestation time of a month. Goblins take a month to become independent after birth and half a year to reach sexual maturity.

If a tribe of 100 goblins catches enough females and has enough food to support themselves, they can turn into a terrifying super tribe of over 10,000 strong in under a year. Such a tribe can even wipe out an entire cohort of legionaries.

This is why male goblins are considered pests to be exterminated.

On the other hand, their females are different. They are almost considered a different race, perhaps even beneficial in a sense.

The females look like short female orcs with shorter tusks, looking rather attractive in most humanoid races' eyes. They have strength and intelligence higher than goblins, reaching that of normal humans in adulthood.

Possessing smarts and strength comparable to other intelligent humans, the ability to evolve, and the ability to influence lesser goblins, they are the nobility of goblin society. Female goblins seldom mate with normal goblins, finding it disgusting to mate with lower lifeforms.

Instead, they have a strange ritual in which they leave the tribe and look for a strong male to fight in single combat. If the female wins, the male will die, and they will look for a new male to challenge them. If the male wins, then the female goblin will seduce the male to mate with them to produce strong offspring. Most of the time, it succeeds since female goblins are very appealing.

Unlike the unevolved male goblins, female goblins have a skewed chance to produce female goblins and evolved goblinoids, with a lesser chance to produce the father's race. Their gestation time is also as long as eight months, with only one or two babies born per pregnancy, and their growth period lasts for 16 years to reach adulthood. Also, female goblins will attempt to create population control in their goblin tribe, to reduce the numbers.

This is why killing or capturing female goblins is considered taboo. Once the female population of goblins drops below a certain level, there is nothing to stop the males of a goblin colony from explosively reproducing, forming mega tribes. These mega tribes form goblin tides, becoming a true menace to nearby settlements.

It is rumored that female goblins are not something naturally born in goblins, but something inserted by goddess Hekatinu to control their population. Still, that is just a rumor.

    Status: chapter 33 – god’s blessing.

Wish I could give 4.5 stars. There is some editing this story could use to hit 5. (Grammar, word choice)

This story really drops you into ancient magical rome. Mog (our half orc protaganist) is a young lad who has good potential and great luck but still is struggling to survive in this world. We get to experence this world through the eyes of this city boy as (minor spoiler)

    Spoiler

he gets military-ish training for his future role as a bodyguard to a rich noble, and gets to know his fellow servents.

    [collapse]

This story is fairly well written and decently paced. The story does get into some dark stuff (gore and phyological) fairly early on, as well as mature content (no s*x yet-Mog is only 11).

    Status: chapter 38 – mog

I liked the beginning of the story because LitRPG was not that important but from chapter 36-37 the protagonist gains the old ability to gain power by eating the bodies of enemies I find this horrible because this ability always turns into a Deus ex machina. And from chapter 38 onwards LitRPG will probably become much more important in the story which I don't like because it makes the protagonist's strength look fake because it's going to be determined by a bunch of numbers. If you like this kind of story, I advise you to read it.

    Status: chapter 50.5 – amulius’s ultimatum for...

This story has great worldbuilding and character development. The best part is the author does a fairly good job at displaying the swirling undercurrents around the MC and the ripple effects of his actions. Now their is the 'issue' some people have with the LitRPG element in the story but there are a number of well written ones even though in this case he also has cheat but that comes into play much later on. The benefit though is the author did his best to:

    a) nerf said ability by giving it restrictions and needing to be developed

    b) give the knowledge that though rare (like 2 on a planet) on a grand cosmic scale it is to be expected

and c) it is possible for others to match the MC through the use of natural resources

As such 4 out of 5 because I didn't feel like giving 5 stars today. Lol
