A little disappointing, but I guess it’s my fault going in based on the synopsis and other reviews and then expecting something similar Record of a Mortal’s Journey to Immortality. It started off similar to that, with a low talent MC, a low-key supplementary cheat, and a fairly low key MC. Unfortunately this was only at the start. Pacing sped up, we have luck around every corner as well as conflicts, MC randomly gets caught up in conspiracies and trouble, simping after a female cultivator when in fact there really isn’t that much relation between them, etc. In fact, the simping is what put me off RMJI in the first place and ended up dropping it due to that. &Nbsp;

Another question is why are the Isekai and imperial harem tags present? And title also seems a bit irrelevant. Feels disingenuous. 

There are good points however such as the lack of stupidly arrogant cultivators, brain dead MC and annoying peanut galleries. The writing level is also pretty good. I like the supplementary non OP cheat as well even if it feels like it should get more attention. The story could use more fleshing out and slowing down of the pace. More time spent on MC pursuing non-cultivator stuff would be good as well since it feels like low talent struggle feels a bit glossed over? All in all, a decent read, with potential for more, but falls short of expectations.

Tl:dr Quite a few steps above standard cookie cutter xianxias but disappointing in that it’s not enough steps above to be truly good.

     So far this is a good cultivation book for the English readers with easy to understand realms of power. The story is more about the characters rather than just the powers, so its not like reading a bookkeeping novel. Anyway give it a go, the characters are likable!

By now, the novel is very good, especially as for xianxia novel. No filler text fir word count, the MC is a realistic character, no repetitive circle jerking "you're trash, you dare, courting death etc", almost no other usual sins of Chinese novels.
