"Argh, how did my life end up like this?!"
There was once a boy who's well-loved and popular with his peers. His smile could melt an adult's heart and his easygoing and sweet nature attracted a lot of girls who became his admirers.
Little did he know that such a blessed life wouldn't last forever.
Now, he is an ugly, overweight adult, working a job he doesn't like, and leading a life he doesn't want. No women want to be near him, let alone be his girlfriend, or even his wife. He is an oversized gear in a machine that doesn't even welcome him.
When he gets fired from his job, it is the last straw from him. He remembers his life as a kid, and now good and beautiful it was.
"I don't want this. I don't want this anymore!"
"I would be better off dead than having to live like this for a second longer!"
Suicidal, he passes by a flooding river, as there is a storm that day. He immediately thinks of throwing himself there, ending it once and for all.
And he does. But not because he actually has the balls to kill himself via drowning, but because he sees a little girl being carried down the river by the strong current.
In a split second, he decides that it would be better if she lives, even if he has to die in the process.
And he does. He saves her, throwing her into the side of the river. But then his legs, rarely ever used, suddenly cramp. He can do nothing as he is swallowed by the waves.
"Aah, it would be nice if I could be reincarnated into a fantasy world, like in those stories... I can do it all over, and do it better this time around..."
His wish is granted. When he wakes up, he's no longer his old, adult self. He's a baby, living in an entirely new world.
This is his story.

This story would have both happiness and hardships, heartwarming and sad moments, as well as romance that doesn't just end in a kiss. This is a harem story that will end up in a genuine polygamous relationship. It's also an adventure story, though it would stay as a slice-of-life for a good while as MC grows up.

This story is giving me mixed feelings. I found this story on the ao3 site a week or so ago and I was pleasantly surprised. I'm not usually a fan of these types of "isekai" tropes (or anime/manga in general), but something about this made me want to keep reading. Maybe it was the correct grammar, well-structured sentences, the side-characters or the descriptions of events and characters, frankly, I have no clue - all I know is that the above mentioned aspects of the story are good. Now the trickiest part is the protagonist. A lot has already been said about him, the good, the bad and the ugly parts - but mostly the bad and ugly parts. Frankly, there's not much that can be done about that. I get why readers would be surprised, so to speak, about the protag being... well... different. Usually in your everyday isekai mangas the MC is usually pretty hollow, with the side-characters filling out that hollowness to make the story whole- maybe that's the magic of manga? Who knows. There's a few things that truly boggle my mind that the author makes the MC do/think. However, the thing I'm holding onto, is that he continues to grow, as a person. There were a couple of times where Hugo would progress/grow as a person and then immediately go back to being a dumbass. Alas, that's what makes me keep reading and wanting more - to see him become a better person and friend. A little advice (more like a plea) to the author - if you're going to make him grow and give him some character development - then make it last ;) , no one wants to see a character develop then regress back to the way they were. All in all - a decent story with fun, developing side-characters set in a good, albeit typical, world. Will definitely keep reading and waiting for more.

It's a good story, spelling and grammar is better than most of the novels on this site
And good job on the story, some might say the later chapters are depressing but screw them the world isn't always smiles and rainbows its a given that something bad could have happened sometime sooner or later (it's like Harry Potter where dobby dies) its saddening but it gives him a drive to move forward toward his goals and I'll give it a 100 out of 10 please continue with this story no matter what what some might say about it, it's a unique story goodbye and peace✌️

Have been binge reading for the past days. It quite a lot of journey.
Good story, it's pretty much a story of worthless man. And it defined include a take on how a worthless man would act and do. You can't just expect useless man suddenly changed into better man without proper training.
There's lots of wishful fillment elements inside. And it has politics. Idk if it realistic, but definitely convincing enough.
The grammar is good, there's good amount of information of how things happening with the narrative. That's the good part of a story being reviewed with human editor.
And Novel-AI is very good at making instant illustration. It's helping with illustration. Hopefully more serious webnovel author use that.

Others reviews have said all the things about the drastic turning point in the story that has led me to leaving this review all I can say is that I wish I read the reviews before reading.
To the author: I loved the beginning of your story but to be honest the deep attachment to the characters you were able to give me made chapter 49 hurt just that much more. I hope you the best and that you can finish this story to your satisfaction.

The short version is it's a good story. Well thought out characters, a well defined world (people, politics, etc.) After looking over other reviews in the 1 to 2 star range it looks like people dislike and stopped reading after 1 major event they believe was unbelievable/uncharacteristic (see spoiler)
After the fight to save his sister, the MC finds the frozen and decapitated remains of his parents (he finds their heads near each other still mostly intact). It turns out his father chose to save the MC who was casting the spell that finally killed their opponent, instead of him and his wife. Hugo (the MC) mentally snaps like a twig, because OF COURSE HE DID! WHO WOULDN'T!?!Everyone is welcome to their opinion. But criticizing the MC for acting uncharacteristically and making bad decisions? To explain why he acted like that, may I direct your attention to the FROZEN SHATTERED CORPSES that use to be his loving parents?Survivors guilt and being unable to face his sisters, it's believable.

The story started really good, the plot was interesting, the characters well fleshed out. Well, except for the part of a 6 years old acting as a 18-20 years old and nobody finding it strange. But that is common in this site and in this story it wasn't so infuriating.
Problem is, the MC thinks with hid d*ck. If he a conversation with a pretty lady for more than a minute he starts to loose his intelligence. Moreover when necessary he transform from a mature adult to a a baby for some reason. Absolutely fake. I'm not going to talk about the fighting system but that too has some very convenient hole for the MC.
If you are fine with all that, this is a very good story.

I last read this whenever my latest read chapter was released.
Have not bothered picking it up again. For all the reasons others have already said on here.
I kept reading as there was always potential for SOMETHING GRATIFYING. Because of those dangling carrots In The Future, All is Well.
Yeah... no. Done with the same tired crap and just dont see the point of continuing. It feels like reading dragonball, only with the most uninteresting hero to follow ever. just feels like it takes forever to get anywhere meaningful, with complet resets back to square 1.
The last time I felt specifically like this was during a real life board game of risk had 1 guy stack hundreds in australia with the rest of world owned by his one opponent, and we had to watch dice on end seemingly going nowhere. that and chutes and ladders.
