I can forgive an evil character, but not a poorly written character. The writing gets sloppy from chapter 5. The author tells us to hate the father and half-brother Edmund, but doesn't tell us why we SHOULD hate them. The actions and motivations of the characters don't make any sense.
Spoiler
Edmund verbally insults Alex and his sister, so Alex attacks him with powerful magic? The MC isn't "set up to be the Villain", he IS a villain. He's mentally 30 years old, but he's torturing a 10-year-old for having a potty mouth? And his sister attacks another kid in the same way for trying to splash water on her?
[collapse]
If the MC was written as an ACTUAL villain then I'd be ok with this, but he's a hero who died to save a stranger's life. His actions, motivation, and personality are all mismatched.
