Vol. 1
Noel Miller is a fourteen-year-old girl from small-town America. After the sudden death of her parents, she and her young brother are forced to move across the world to live with their aunt in Tokyo, Japan. Having to learn to live in a foreign land is hard enough, but her life gets more complicated than ever when she is accidentally given magical powers by Azrath; a strange creature who has come to Earth to battle with a vicious race of immortals using the broken pieces of his god's sword said to contain the last of his power.
Unfortunately, that power has bonded to Noel. And now, she is the only one who can use it! No stranger to the supernatural due to a familial curse, Noel takes her newfound power in stride. But just how long will that confidence last? Especially with the immortal Ahngreel leader's impending arrival on Earth. Just what does fate have in store for Noel?
Vol. 2
With supernatural abilities and a silly new name, Noel has become a magical girl! Not that she knows what that is or what she can do. But with the arrival of Darris the Indomitable, leader of the Ahngreel, she'll have to find out sooner than later as she and Azrath journey to rescue a piece of the sword that has fallen into his clutches.
It's a race across Tokyo as they hope against hope that the piece will not gift him with even more power. But unbeknownst to them, Darris is ready and waiting for their arrival with an insatiable hunger for battle.
Vol. 3
After suffering a terrible loss, Noel is in the clutches of despair. But fate will not let her go that easily. Nor will Darris. For whatever reason, he has become fascinated with her. Now she is subject to his whims, a prisoner of his agenda, which is to push Noel to her absolute limits. But how he plans to do that, Noel has no idea.
So, she faces a daunting challenge: get out of there alive. The odds seem against her, but with Urzuran's power, nothing is impossible. She must use her wits to figure out a way to make it home safe.
Vol. 4
As Noel prepares for the dark road ahead, Darris is gathering the Ahngreel. Rumors abound as to why. And those curious, like the Ahngeel Kaas, are determined to find the truth. For the past several millennia, he has been gathering forces of his own to oppose the human who has usurped the Hidaar throne. It's going to take guts, determination, and the help of his loyal soldiers to depose Darris.
Will he succeed? Or are there other, larger threats out there with agendas of their own?
vol. 5
Training is not going as well as Noel hoped. The memories of her battles on that night still linger in her mind. Nothing makes sense to her anymore. As a result, she finds herself torn between the ideologies of Darris and Azrath. She can only take solace in the idea that she can get stronger. But what does that exactly mean? She doesn't have long to think about it as Darris and Kaas are on the move to enact their own agendas.
The plot, the setting, the characters are all well written.
If you are expecting an action series, I would not recommend reading this. This is primarily a character driven story. It also has a very slow pace, I have read 3 volumes, yet the story has barely progressed. The entire of the first volume is just a prologue and the first fight only happens on volume 2. The first real fight ends on volume 3.
