1) this story is quite dark at times and the MC often depressed/afraid/fearful, but it makes it all the better when she pushes through it.
2) I like a slow story with realistic emotions. This story did a pretty good job there (she doesn't just brush off abuse the second day after something happens. She also has believable emotions for her age)
3) The world building and grammer are decent, flows better than average for SH.
The only cons/critics I have are: the end is a bit rushed (spoilers, her decision to finally run away at the end... but her turmoil on coming back was good.... Also I think everyone wanted more on how the mother was killed).... I also know she was basically broken (and I think it was good she wasn't making eleborate plans), but having her make a bit more effort to try to better her life (like in the army making a concious effort to avoid trouble more than just smiling... maybe at least trying to understand what is happening in the war) a little would have made us root for her more.
