Normally, there would be no point telling his story.

However, one day, something strange happens. He accidentally stumbles upon a strange girl. Immediately he notices her unusual appearance—one of her eyes is concealed under a black eyepatch.

Caught up in utter confusion, he barely notices when the girl asks him to become her ‘servant’, but doesn’t give him any time to respond as she runs away.

As it turns out soon, the girl appears to be completely detached from the real world. She pretends to be strong and tough, but it doesn’t take much to reveal her bashful and cowardly side.

The protagonist—Fujioka Takao—initially driven by curiosity, decides to put up with the eccentric girl, but at some point, the situation gets out of his control.

Thus begins his story, which quickly proves to be the story of his youth.

The early part of his life has been a blank to him as long as he can remember, but the more time he spends in Haven, the more hints there are that a place like this is where he belongs. But how did he come to be alone several years before, with no memory? Is there unfinished business lurking in his past that can come back to haunt him in his new life? And how much danger are his Haven friends in because of him?

Very much an Ugly Duckling tale. Only with fewer ducks. ;)

This was my first finished novel. Comfort playing with gender and experimenting with other diversity came later. There *are* intimate poly relationships and a sort of non-exclusive MM friendship-with-benefits. V0.01 of Black Wolf was written during the mid-1990's, while I was in my late teens/early 20s. While it has undergone three or four major overhauls since then, updating it to take place later proved not to be a viable option. I realize some readers may find concepts like the absence of cell phones and Internet rather alien.

** Content warnings: minimal gore/violence (largely wolves fighting bad things), occasional bad language, the only sex is a non-explicit masturbation scene. The MC does start off homeless and there are a couple of mild scenes around this. This should be a short visit, just long enough to see the book into the proper hands and make sure Jared will not be killed for having it, and then she can return to the shyani community that has accepted her as their shaman. And, of course, her feline best friend Dayr insists on coming with her.

But Jared is now a Lord, with considerable wealth and power, and his response to her presence isn’t one she expected. After years living with the shyani, she sees everything around her from a new perspective, and that makes it difficult to keep to the plan of making as few waves as possible.
