Lilia Garidia

Lilia is a maid of the Greyrat household. After being sexually abused at a young age, she was disowned by her family, and cast away. Finding work as a maid, she would become a maid under the Asura's palace where she would later be shifted over under the concubine palace as the princess personal guard. At a later point she would later suffer a wound under the service of the princess, protecting her, and earning her a wound that would persist later in life. The wound was mostly taken care of, but there were sided effects. She was expected to never run or stomp with her full strength again, and got sacked concurrently. Seeing the writing in the wall, and fearing that she knew to much of the Asuran household she changed carts, and ran for the border where she would attempt a change in life, a quiet life. So marks her arrival at the Greyrat household.

Lilia has had a diverse past, and do to her experiences, is untrusting, and slightly on guard around people. She is a good judge of character, as well as familiar with reading between the lines, and other Asuran manurisms. Because of her circumstances Lilia can be a little subservient at times, but still has a strong core of her former, lesser noble, background. Will follow orders dutifully, and dedicate for you, so long as you are someone worth following. It has been ingrained into her that following one's master is ones greatest pleasure.

Zenith Greyrat

Zenith Greyrat, formerly Latreia is Paul's wife and mother to Rudeus and Norn. Born into a noble household in the country of Millis she was the ideal noble lady, earning the title Millis young lady standard. As such it was expected of her to marry, bear a child with another noble household, and fulfil her duty. To which, in her first act of rebellion, she ran away, and decided to risk it all. At the age of fifteen it would mark her start as an adventurer.

Bein the 'Young Lady Standard,' she had a sheltered upbring, and lacked much common sense; such as the price for everyday services, or commodities. Thinking that with her healing ability, and educated background she could make a profitable living as an adventurer, but lacking certain social skills she was taken advantage of, and exploited for her services, for several months before she would be rescued by a male adventurer, starting her days as a member of Paul's party the Fangs of The Black Wolf.

Zenith is a loving caring person from a monotheistic religion that practices monogamy. Abiding by the teachings ingrained into her, as well as those of her profession, she is caring to the core and warms the hearts of everyone she meets. The 'Idol,' of her group she is used to being the center of attention, even if a little ignorant of times, considering it second nature. A little flirtatious and playful at times, prominently around women or husband, she is the life of the party. A little bit absentminded she often gives the impression of social butterfly that must be protected.

Because of these two sides of her personality, dutiful and playful, with a hint of naivety she is often underestimated. Zenith Greyrat can be described as the heart of whatever group she is in party or family.

Paul Greyrat

Paul Greyrat. the father of Rudeus Greyrat, Norn Greyrat, and Aisha Greyrat. A talented swordsman reaching advanced in all three known sword styles in the world he sometimes has a big head on his shoulder, and tends to dive things head first in all aspects of life. Born under Asuran nobility Paul lived a lavish life early on, living a life with very little oversight, with the exception of his mother, and the head maid. Receiving very little regard in his own household, beings seen as 'that one noble that likes to flip skirts.' His playful nature, and later lustful nature put a divide between him and his household, predominantly his father.

He would be sent to school early on as a form of correction only for him to continue his antics, and stretch that divide. Tough familial relations Paul will discover his talent in swordsmanship early on and use it as an escape.

During these years, Valentina Greyrat, would become sick, creating a divide in the family. Because of his wife's tendency to check on him, even when in poor health, Amarant Notos Greyrat, Paul's father, would come to blame him for her death and lash out at him . This would mark the divide between Paul and his father, as well as a turning point in his life pushing him out of the household.

Talented with a blade he found success as an adventurer.

A lustful man that attracted and slept with many women during his years. He has a rogueish charm that attracted many women to him. Until the day he would meet his wife, he would have the reputation of someone that sleeps around.

Finding her a little naive at first, and her finding him annoying, they would have a turbulent beginning, before finding happiness together. So long as he slept with her and only her she would sleep with him. After one night, she would be with child, and he would take responsibility later on.

Despite coming from a noble background Paul gives the impression more of that of a commoner with his mannerisms, and way of speaking. Being bold and playful, and having a natural ability to talk to others, he is seen as a charismatic figure if not a little perverted. Can best be described a person that does the good thing... eventually, but struggles getting there. Due to his hardships, and upbringing will do anything, including underhanded methods, to protect what is his.  His approaches usually causes conflict between parties.

Rudeus Greyrat

Rudeus, In his previous life was hikkimori neet, living a slothful life filled with only all things otaku. Mangas, light novels, animes, regardless of medium he would switch between these three, and do so until the moment of his death. Do to an injury in his late youth he decided to take a break from the dull and cruel world, and sought an escape into fiction as his recovery. He did so, until his heart gave out and died from years of inactivity, reincarnating in another world.

Having lived a life wasted, and then reincarnating in a world of fiction; the protagonist was 'troubled' as to how he should tackles his new life. The only conclusion being, whether real or a hallucination, he would at least move forward one step at a time 'till he figure things out, less his heart give out again.

Being a shut-in for several years, he sometimes misses social cues, and can be  blunt in the way he approaches things. To the point where he can come across as rude at times.  Despite his analytical mind, he has the problem of focusing too much on a task or a person, that he can be surprised, or taken off-guard by things or people he doesn't take notice of.  Due to this devil may care attitude of his he causes headaches for the people around him at time.

That said, despite his quirks, most people that know him tend to think of him as a lovable child, ahead of his peers, if a little mischievous.

...he's noted by certain characters to be interested in older women...

Roxy Migurdia

Roxy Migurdia a talented Migurdian mage. A petite woman, with the appearance of a young girl, as is standard for her race. Coming from a species that will retain their youth until their final days, she is often looked down upon(Literally).

She has a complex over her height.

Due to a handicap of not being able to read minds among her people, as standard for Migurdian's she felt ostracized and alone inside her village. When the call to adventure came, in the form of a traveling mage, broadening her world, she took it, and in the dead of night, set out to become an adventurer.

Several adventures were haved along the way, until the time comes where she would spend time on a small village in the outskirts of the border, meeting Rudeus.

Do to the protagonist insecurities, and reckless behavior; Roxy developed as a teacher in a way contrary to cannon. Still proud of her own ability, she sees their is more to life than simply talent, and by that consequence their is more to life; than hard work.

Thinks of the protagonist as a problem child she worries a little if he will behave properly without her to ground him, or keep him in check.

Sylphiette (Dragonroad)

Although, technically her family name is Dragonroad, it is a mystery to her. Not something shared by her father  discarded due to 'personal' reasons, and being useless for all intents and purpose in everyday  life, it goes mostly unsaid within her family's walls.

Only since his daughters birth has her father considered using the name again.

Sylphiette, or Sylphy as people close to her call her is the shy elf girl that usually follows Roxy or Rudy around in hopes of befriending them.  Being a nice girl to her her core, she had... 'difficulties,' relating to Rudy, and found the idea of being around him scary.

That said...

Rudeus' forthright nature made it quite easy, even for someone as socially inexperienced as Sylphy, of what type of guy Rudy is, and as such she's making an effort to get closer to him.

Has a small(?) crush on him.

Unfortunately.... due to the protagonist not seeing Sylphy as a romantic interest it leads to Sylphiette feeling down on her self, and going on the offensive. Is becoming bolder and bolder, and seems to be inheriting some habits from Rudeus from all the time they spend together.

Her father worries about her future.

Being braver than her original counterpart her future is unclear.

The only thing for certain is that Sylphiette will soar high.

Words cannot describe the devastation this fanfic has brought to my heart. There’s no doubt the author is a great writer... But this recent development has left me at a loss.

    Spoiler

    The unexpected and unwanted NTR.

The author made me grow to love Lilia. I even felt she deserved the world. Especially after everything she has been through. And the love that Rudy showed her was clearly pure, intense, and heartfelt. It made me root for them. But then the author proceeded to destroy everything... and for what? I don’t know.

    [collapse]
I honestly don’t think I’ll ever recover from this and I don’t know if I can even keep reading.

    ⚠️Read at your own risk.⚠️

So well, I read this despite my misgivings at the review from DrSkillz, since I was bored... And overall this story so far is really well written, the author got the characters down perfectly. Rudeus is also in a way similar and the way that he acts is really... organic, super real, he has multiple problems and complexes but I have to say I like him a lot more than the original. Now in regards to the... development.

    Spoiler

The way the author had developed Lilia was really amazing, I can see the entire thought process and how the entire situation came to be, and it does seem reasonable in terms of how this was likely to happen, in the end Rudeus is 6. Personally, I hate the development, but on the other hand its really well written, the author written really skilfully how the characters feel about all this, regret, hurt, despair even. In the end I have to say that in terms of narrative development and story telling, this is actually good, exactly because of how it makes me feel, for that was its purpose.

    [collapse]

As to whether I recommend this? If you cannot stand pain then I cannot recommend reading. The writing makes you super attached to the characters and the situation just hurts. Honestly, am quite amazed at how well it is written. But well, at this point I feel too invested in the story to really stop reading. Regardless of the... situation I am still somewhat enjoying the story.

Humans when put into certain different situations will react vastly different depending on who is in the driver’s seat. In the case of infidelity, the responses every different party involved might have to such a heinous betrayal being committed in real life can range from the extreme side of the spectrum; such as possibly leading to the loss of someone’s life, then there’s the other side, becoming a doormat and quickly forgiving the parties involved in betrayal with little to no consequence. Both responses can be considered depressing in their own ways.

Relationships are complicated, but what isn’t complicated is how soul crushing it feels to be backstabbed by someone you loved or at least had deep trust in.

    Spoiler

Which is why it feels so filthy, having to read how easily Lilia is forgiven by Rudy and especially Zenith. Perhaps maybe even, it’s insane that this is something the author will probably actually do, forgive Paul as well in the future.

The easy way out to explain the quick forgiveness is using what I mentioned in the beginning. “That is just who Rudy and Zenith are as people”, “due to Zenith’s values she obtained while growing up as a noble” “they love Lilia too much to cut her from their lives”, but these arguments only have to be made when the events written feel so cheap and unsatisfying, that you’re just left scrambling looking for any crumb that could justify why it was written in this direction.

    [collapse]

As this is fanfiction, you’ll want to try to stick to how the canon characters might react when put in certain situations. On the other hand though, as this is fanfiction, like what happens with probably over 90% of fanfiction, the overarching plot of the fanfiction stays consistent with the canon story. Meaning, most authors will never stray too far from major canon events.

    Spoiler

For example, how could Aisha be born if Lilia doesn’t sleep with Paul right? Guess what, I don’t know if you know this but when writing you can literally do whatever you want. So in the same way you can write Lilia and Pauls betrayal to be more gut wrenching than canon, there’s endless possibilities to make Aisha be born even without the infidelity. Yes, as you can write whatever you want, it doesn’t mean the way you wrote it is wrong, but readers can also judge it the way they wish to and I personally believe the events were handled very poorly.

Also, I keep mentioning Aisha, because that’s how cheap you’ve made this betrayal feel, you needed Aisha to be born because you aren’t confident in straying too far from the canon story, but you still want Lilia to get with both the people she betrayed, Rudy and Zenith. The timeline is also getting close to when Rudy leaves in canon which means having to also leave in this story because you know (incapable of straying too far from the overarching canon), so you have Zenith and Rudy forgive Lilia in that small time frame which is why it feels so cheap and quick. The only lasting consequences of her actions being some very mild PTSD between the three when exposed to certain words or actions.

    [collapse]

I got more mean towards the end, but as someone who doesn’t mind reading uncomfortable plots as long as they are executed well. It is deeply unfortunate seeing a story that has very enjoyable things about it, being forever dirtied by such a large majorly mishandled part of the story.

The story isn’t necessarily unsalvageable, there’s a lot you can do to still have this be a satisfying read. Preferably one without Lilia or Paul in the equation, but that certainly won’t happen.

I’d rather prefer a story to be a fond memory than be memorable because of how much of a train wreck it is. As someone who read the “rough draft” and was hoping the edits on here might make it more bearable, for me this story is still seen as the latter.

I love the style but, personally, can't bear going through this subgenre. You should definitely check out the tags.

I love the writing style of the author, rather than writing dull and emotionless Isekai characters, he easily makes you forget that you're reading fiction, making you feel as if you're reading about living, breathing humans.

Humans.. that brings the second point.

I'll be going on a little bit of a tangent, but here goes nothing.

Humans are merely human, most will get corrupted in the right circumstances. Yet, understanding is neither acceptance nor forgiveness.

I try not to confuse writing questionable characters with supporting questionable actions, that said, I cannot continue after

    Spoiler

tolerating Lilia x Rudy (20s female and 6 (7?) year old male) relationship, hoping it would end with no "action" and... guess what happened? It could've been worse, for whatever its worth, yet that doesn't change the fact that (albeit in a moment of understandable weakness) she gobbles up (in her perspective) a prepubescent boy.

    [collapse]

I believe I understand the factors involved, and perhaps that was a realistic outcome given the circumstances and people involved.

Yet, in light of this, I cannot continue reading this novel. Despite how technically exemplary it is.

    TL;DR

    In summary,

if you're fine with the tags, this is a great story.

If you think you can tolerate them, it's a fifty-fifty.

If you can't accept the tags, you shouldn't even begin. Departing with such a well-written novel is going to hurt.

I'm not used to making this kind of criticism, but, yeah... come on.

The way the plot is developed is masterful. Seriously, the author clearly knows what's going on and clearly has great mental fortitude as obviously the turn of events, being very bittersweet but really addictive, is prone to a lot of negative criticism and nasty comments...

Well, as for how doesn't have 5 stars It all? It's unfortunate, but that point where what is being evaluated is not the quality of the object, but the satisfaction (insane doses of dopamine (like Tik T*k)) that it provides.

I could also point out that the way the characters are developed is sublime. Well, even the canon is kind of dark and despite the weirdness and disgusting thoughts/actions that the original Rudeus took on the world itself, characters and the power system were fun enough to bring me here! And crownedclown7 's writing is what made me stay.

Honestly, I think I like this more than the original work, even though I've been an absolute fan since 2017 (?), well for me this just shows the quality of the reading and the author's ability and talent to convey the myriad of emotions through which passed until the present.

In short, it's a fun and somewhat impactful read, but it's important to take into consideration that the reader must be mentally resistant to possible emotional damage!

Yeah, I'll stop reading this, I'm not a fan of this kind of content. I really want to just hate on this story because of it but trying to be a little bit more mature makes me understand that there are people with different likes in the world and you do you author. I'm actually grateful, I was thinking seriously about stopping reading fanfictions and light novels and such, I'm getting old for this you see (24), and this is what I needed, I didn't want my 7+ years of reading web novels to end on a bitter note but I guess that's how it should be. Thank you a lot, it's weird but I'm really grateful, thanks.
