Synopsis

'Was a fan of all things Otaku. That said, being isekai'd is a bit much, no?' Young man from the real world passes on, and wakes up in a medieval society, without any of the things that brought him pleasure in life. 'But isn't this a chance to start a-new?' Only time will tell as Rudeus decides to makes the best of his new life, but still though... y does his new name sound so familiar?

An OC insert story, but my twist on it. Do not expect a stereotypical story, things won't always go the protagonist way. Being OP doesn't mean your life is easy.

The Original story was supposed to be about an everyman(scum) rebuilding himself in another world, and growing from it. But I felt the author did Otakus dirty. The MC(original) is pure scum, like the worst charactertics of what an Otaku is, a bad stereotype.

Hence this story; a more believable otaku, but can still fall under the trope of the everyman. As well as having the meta knowledge of a self-insert. An average otaku rebuilding himself in another world. A True Isekai.

On an unrelated note for people doing Mushoku tensei fandoms. Mushoku Tensei literally means jobless reincarnation. I don't know why it's promoted like that by Crunchyroll, but it's repetitive. So when your categorizing this. You can pick Mushoku Tensei, or Jobless Reincarnation, don't do both. That's just dumb.

Words cannot describe the devastation this fanfic has brought to my heart. There’s no doubt the author is a great writer... But this recent development has left me at a loss.

    Spoiler

    The unexpected and unwanted NTR.

The author made me grow to love Lilia. I even felt she deserved the world. Especially after everything she has been through. And the love that Rudy showed her was clearly pure, intense, and heartfelt. It made me root for them. But then the author proceeded to destroy everything... and for what? I don’t know.

    [collapse]
I honestly don’t think I’ll ever recover from this and I don’t know if I can even keep reading.

So well, I read this despite my misgivings at the review from DrSkillz, since I was bored... And overall this story so far is really well written, the author got the characters down perfectly. Rudeus is also in a way similar and the way that he acts is really... organic, super real, he has multiple problems and complexes but I have to say I like him a lot more than the original. Now in regards to the... development.

    Spoiler

The way the author had developed Lilia was really amazing, I can see the entire thought process and how the entire situation came to be, and it does seem reasonable in terms of how this was likely to happen, in the end Rudeus is 6. Personally, I hate the development, but on the other hand its really well written, the author written really skilfully how the characters feel about all this, regret, hurt, despair even. In the end I have to say that in terms of narrative development and story telling, this is actually good, exactly because of how it makes me feel, for that was its purpose.

    [collapse]

As to whether I recommend this? If you cannot stand pain then I cannot recommend reading. The writing makes you super attached to the characters and the situation just hurts. Honestly, am quite amazed at how well it is written. But well, at this point I feel too invested in the story to really stop reading. Regardless of the... situation I am still somewhat enjoying the story.

One of my favorite fan fics. Paul came out a little more evil then I wanted but I look forward to reading the rest of the story.

Humans when put into certain different situations will react vastly different depending on who is in the driver’s seat. In the case of infidelity, the responses every different party involved might have to such a heinous betrayal being committed in real life can range from the extreme side of the spectrum; such as possibly leading to the loss of someone’s life, then there’s the other side, becoming a doormat and quickly forgiving the parties involved in betrayal with little to no consequence. Both responses can be considered depressing in their own ways.

Relationships are complicated, but what isn’t complicated is how soul crushing it feels to be backstabbed by someone you loved or at least had deep trust in.

    Spoiler

Which is why it feels so filthy, having to read how easily Lilia is forgiven by Rudy and especially Zenith. Perhaps maybe even, it’s insane that this is something the author will probably actually do, forgive Paul as well in the future.

The easy way out to explain the quick forgiveness is using what I mentioned in the beginning. “That is just who Rudy and Zenith are as people”, “due to Zenith’s values she obtained while growing up as a noble” “they love Lilia too much to cut her from their lives”, but these arguments only have to be made when the events written feel so cheap and unsatisfying, that you’re just left scrambling looking for any crumb that could justify why it was written in this direction.

    [collapse]

As this is fanfiction, you’ll want to try to stick to how the canon characters might react when put in certain situations. On the other hand though, as this is fanfiction, like what happens with probably over 90% of fanfiction, the overarching plot of the fanfiction stays consistent with the canon story. Meaning, most authors will never stray too far from major canon events.

    Spoiler

For example, how could Aisha be born if Lilia doesn’t sleep with Paul right? Guess what, I don’t know if you know this but when writing you can literally do whatever you want. So in the same way you can write Lilia and Pauls betrayal to be more gut wrenching than canon, there’s endless possibilities to make Aisha be born even without the infidelity. Yes, as you can write whatever you want, it doesn’t mean the way you wrote it is wrong, but readers can also judge it the way they wish to and I personally believe the events were handled very poorly.

Also, I keep mentioning Aisha, because that’s how cheap you’ve made this betrayal feel, you needed Aisha to be born because you aren’t confident in straying too far from the canon story, but you still want Lilia to get with both the people she betrayed, Rudy and Zenith. The timeline is also getting close to when Rudy leaves in canon which means having to also leave in this story because you know (incapable of straying too far from the overarching canon), so you have Zenith and Rudy forgive Lilia in that small time frame which is why it feels so cheap and quick. The only lasting consequences of her actions being some very mild PTSD between the three when exposed to certain words or actions.

    [collapse]

I got more mean towards the end, but as someone who doesn’t mind reading uncomfortable plots as long as they are executed well. It is deeply unfortunate seeing a story that has very enjoyable things about it, being forever dirtied by such a large majorly mishandled part of the story.

The story isn’t necessarily unsalvageable, there’s a lot you can do to still have this be a satisfying read. Preferably one without Lilia or Paul in the equation, but that certainly won’t happen.

I’d rather prefer a story to be a fond memory than be memorable because of how much of a train wreck it is. As someone who read the “rough draft” and was hoping the edits on here might make it more bearable, for me this story is still seen as the latter.

I love the style but, personally, can't bear going through this subgenre. You should definitely check out the tags.

I love the writing style of the author, rather than writing dull and emotionless Isekai characters, he easily makes you forget that you're reading fiction, making you feel as if you're reading about living, breathing humans.

Humans.. that brings the second point.

I'll be going on a little bit of a tangent, but here goes nothing.

Humans are merely human, most will get corrupted in the right circumstances. Yet, understanding is neither acceptance nor forgiveness.

I try not to confuse writing questionable characters with supporting questionable actions, that said, I cannot continue after

    Spoiler

tolerating Lilia x Rudy (20s female and 6 (7?) year old male) relationship, hoping it would end with no "action" and... guess what happened? It could've been worse, for whatever its worth, yet that doesn't change the fact that (albeit in a moment of understandable weakness) she gobbles up (in her perspective) a prepubescent boy.

    [collapse]

I believe I understand the factors involved, and perhaps that was a realistic outcome given the circumstances and people involved.

Yet, in light of this, I cannot continue reading this novel. Despite how technically exemplary it is.

    TL;DR

    In summary,

if you're fine with the tags, this is a great story.

If you think you can tolerate them, it's a fifty-fifty.

If you can't accept the tags, you shouldn't even begin. Departing with such a well-written novel is going to hurt.

I'm not used to making this kind of criticism, but, yeah... come on.

The way the plot is developed is masterful. Seriously, the author clearly knows what's going on and clearly has great mental fortitude as obviously the turn of events, being very bittersweet but really addictive, is prone to a lot of negative criticism and nasty comments...

Well, as for how doesn't have 5 stars It all? It's unfortunate, but that point where what is being evaluated is not the quality of the object, but the satisfaction (insane doses of dopamine (like Tik T*k)) that it provides.

I could also point out that the way the characters are developed is sublime. Well, even the canon is kind of dark and despite the weirdness and disgusting thoughts/actions that the original Rudeus took on the world itself, characters and the power system were fun enough to bring me here! And crownedclown7 's writing is what made me stay.

Honestly, I think I like this more than the original work, even though I've been an absolute fan since 2017 (?), well for me this just shows the quality of the reading and the author's ability and talent to convey the myriad of emotions through which passed until the present.

In short, it's a fun and somewhat impactful read, but it's important to take into consideration that the reader must be mentally resistant to possible emotional damage!

Yeah, I'll stop reading this, I'm not a fan of this kind of content. I really want to just hate on this story because of it but trying to be a little bit more mature makes me understand that there are people with different likes in the world and you do you author. I'm actually grateful, I was thinking seriously about stopping reading fanfictions and light novels and such, I'm getting old for this you see (24), and this is what I needed, I didn't want my 7+ years of reading web novels to end on a bitter note but I guess that's how it should be. Thank you a lot, it's weird but I'm really grateful, thanks.
