Typically, new souls appear from “the Abyss.” The Fishermen of the Abyss pulls them and tends to bring them to a place called the “Island of Dreams,” where souls finish the process of soul-forming. This allows the soul to eventually make a ‘choice’ on what kind of life they want to live. The Fishermen would then bring them to the System they desire: Lux’s System, Tower System, Byakuren System, independent systems, or a thing called seed worlds.

Each Soul has a universal ranking that corresponds to the level of existence an entity possesses.

As an example:

Mamori possesses an A+ to S- classification because he is one the greatest talents in a multiworld System. Furthermore, his status as an exorcist means he has influence on non-material aspects. This classification might not change through the entirety of the novel.

Meanwhile in Lux’s System, Mamori starts off at F- (weakest) and can go all the way to S+ (limit allowed under the System). Anything beyond the ‘limit’ is a challenge to the System and System Owner. It would be like trying to manifest his will over the natural laws that are already enforced. Given that Lux’s System is a closed System such actions directly require her permission.
