I think the author is naturally good at this, because if he calls the previous 13 chapters bad then A LOT of novels wouldn't even be considered.
While the "first" novel is really good I can see the incongruities the author mentioned, but he doesn't need to worry about them: there are a lot of good books, which have the same problem and are finished without explaining these incongruities, but nonetheless remain good novels. Sure, if you want to make a nearly perfect book this is not the way to go, but they can still be really good. Btw the way it was going it would have been great as a short novel of less than or nearly 50 chapters.
The second part is really detailed and is a promise to a great if not perfect novel, a pity the author probably dropped the idea.
